Conservation of energy
Conservation of energy

Conservation of energy

  • At ArtHill we produce our own electricity as we have installed solar panels which provide us green energy.
  • We have installed energy-efficient technologies at ArtHill including A+ and A++ electrical devices.  This means that the devices you use consume less energy than standard appliances, reducing your carbon footprint.
  • Throughout the property and outdoors, all lights are LED and have both motion sensors and timer switchers to reduce energy consumption.
  • Our heat pumps and air conditioning units are powered by green energy and are specially chosen to have very high levels of energy efficiency.
  • And because we care about your whole experience, guests are invited to use our charging stations (Wallbox) for electric cars to support sustainable travel too.
Conserving water
Conserving water

Conserving water

  • Water is precious! We actively protect the region’s water resources by installing systems to reduce water consumption. We also monitor weekly usage to help us understand our water consumption patterns.
  • Among our initiatives has been to instal a water filtering system enabling guests to use undrinkable water for cooking. This cuts down on water use and plastic bottles too
  • We have also installed dual flushing toilets and all taps at ArtHill have a maximum flow of six litres per minute
  • We collect rainwater through an outdoor tank that we use to irrigate the garden and in the upcoming year, we plan to instal covers for pools when they are not in use to reduce water evaporation which is surprisingly high!
  • One area of large water consumption is textile washing so we have a towel and linen reuse policy; Towels and linen are changed once per week. We also encourage guests to use washing machines only when they are at full capacity.
Waste management and Recycling
Waste management and Recycling

Waste management and Recycling

  • We believe that effective waste management helps ensure the longer-term sustainability of our fragile coastal ecosystems. Our priority is to reduce the amount of waste generated at ArtHill and where possible, to always reuse and recycle.
  • To actively encourage recycling we separate waste into recyclable, compostable and discard bins. We ask guests to do their bit too. In each house there are two bins; One for recycling (aluminium cans, paper, glass and PET bottles) and one for general waste.
  • Close to our vegetable garden, we have installed a bin for collecting compostable materials.
  • In addition, we have reduced the use of paper & plastic to an absolute minimum and have equipped all villas with products made from reusable material.
  • Offsite, we use cloth bags or baskets instead of plastic bags to collect and return towels and linens to the laundry shop.
Flora and Fauna
Flora and Fauna

Flora and Fauna

  • Part of being a sustainable business means working in harmony with nature. ArtHill eco villas has a garden area of 2.500sqm and in front of the villas is a huge grassy area with island garden beds.
  • Walking down the path to enter each villa, we’ve planted lemon, plum & mulberry trees and various native flowers to encourage local pollinators. An olive tree has a special spot at the entrance of each house symbolizing longevity, perseverance, peace and lots more.
  • Respecting the land our villas are built on, we care for the existing mature trees, pruning them wisely and watching for pests or diseases to help keep them healthy. These trees have the added benefit of during the very hot summer months.
  • In our vegetable garden, we grow tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants and zucchini as well as local herbs. We encourage guests to gather these products and create their own salads and fresh dishes. Salads dont get more local than that!

Housekeeping
Housekeeping

Housekeeping

  • Green Housekeeping is an important aspect of being a sustainable business. We predominantly use eco-friendly cleaning products with the EU Ecolabel and our cleaning team use cloth cleaning rags instead of disposable paper towels, and where possible, reuses any damaged towels or linen.
  • All bathrooms are equipped with biodegradable toilet paper and refillable hand soaps, shower gels and lotion dispensers.
  • Our mattresses, pillows, bed linen and towels are from the Greek company Cocomat whose products are all made from natural materials as well as being handmade locally.
  • As the water in the region is not drinkable, we provide guests with a dozen glass water bottles at check in which are returned to a shop to be sustainably filled after use. Guests can -upon request- also purchase more glass water bottles from us to avoid using and purchasing plastic bottles.
  • Last but not least, our welcome basket is filled with regional products and we encourage our guests to visit the farmer’s market for their grocery shopping to support local produces and of course, reduce the carbon footprint of their goods!
